The perfect ingredients for a great evening: some bottles of liquid refreshment from local vineyards, an assortment of sweets both hand-made and store-bought, and, most importantly, the company of good friends.

The story:

It wasn’t a Girls-Only Night, but it certainly was a gathering with noticeably more women than men. For all intents and purposes, even with the handful of men that were present, that evening was a Girls Night! From the conversation topics that were way too personal and introspective, to the giggling and chatter over a “cute guy” (not my words) whom one had just met, to the simple attrition of men as the hours passed.......that night was a Girls Night.

By the waning moments of the night it was just me alongside four females. I was perfectly fine with that, and I’m not complaining. It eventually came time for me to say goodnight, though, and let the girls put the party to bed. I’m reasonably sure the party remained quite lively even after...

At 15, Scott suffered a spinal cord injury while playing ice hockey, a sport he’d played since he was five. This left him “medically defined” as a c4 quadriplegic. Scott admits he can be a bit bull-headed at times. He refused to paint following his accident, because he didn’t want to hold the brushes using his mouth. To him, painting without using his hands would be as if he’d given in to being a quadriplegic. He didn’t want that! Unless he could paint like “normal” people, he didn’t want to paint at all. And so he didn’t. Finally, in 2003, after much prodding from family and friends, he decided to swallow his pride and try painting. Of course, he first tried holding the brush with his hands.
